ABSTRACTION FROM SOUTH INDIA

Three Generations of Madrasi abstract painting comes to London

Exhibition Dates: 30th October – 6th November 2018
Private View: Thurs 1st November 6 – 9pm (Directorial Tour at 7pm)

In this stunning new exhibition, 508 Gallery on Kings Road takes you to Madras in South India to introduce you to three abstract artists, generations apart, with three very different painterly styles and artistic outcomes. Join The Noble Sage Art Collection’s Director as he teams up with 508 Gallery to give you an insight into this rare niche in South Indian contemporary art.

The exhibition describes abstraction through three artists with differing and idiosyncratic styles. Achuthan Kudallur, the most senior and well-known of the group at 73 years old, is almost a pragmatist in his somewhat algebraic approach to abstract painting, reconstructing always a single colour in every canvas.

By contrast, T. Athiveerapandian aims to capture nature’s unpredictability and vibrancy through his sometimes violent and expressive brushwork and colour. The youngest artist, Ganesh Selvaraj, aged 42, is certainly more conceptual: each artwork a manifestation of scrutiny, perception and deep contemplation.

The exhibition will be open Tues – Sat 10am – 6pm. All welcome, no appointment necessary. Original works are for sale. Price range: £800 – 3500
