Sitar Maestro Ravi Shankar dies at 92

The Legendary musician Pandit Ravi Shankar has passed away at the age of 92. He was India’s musical ambassador who brought Indian classical music and the Sitar to the West. His musical legacy will continue with those he inspired, including his children, Sitar player Anoushka Shankar & Grammy award winning singer Norah Jones.

Three time Grammy award winner Ravi Shankar and his daughter Anoushka had been nominated for the 2013 Grammy awards. Anoushka for her album the Traveller and her father for the "Living Room Sessions." He spent the last years of his life with Anoushka’s mother Sukanya in California.

Once a dancer, Bengali born Ravi Shankar started learning the Sitar at 18. His musical journey in the west including performing at Woodstock and his association with George Harrison of the Beatles helped gain international recognition.
