British Tamil rapper Maya Arulpragasam aka M.I.A.'s latest album // / Y / was ranked #19 on Rolling Stone's Best Albums of 2010. It is a good result, especially when taking into account all the controversy behind the album, as well as its unsearchable title! This is what ‘Rolling Stone’ published on their site:
The backlash against M.I.A.'s high jinks — that graphic "Born Free" video and her beef with The New York Times — distracted everyone from the fact that her biggest provocations in 2010 were sonic. Maya's art-punk noise and electro beats made for the most abrasive protest music in recent memory.
The list includes the Top 30 albums, with rapper Kanye West’s "My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy" taking the top spot.
