AR Rahman has turned 44 today and his fans are celebrating with big cheers, yet following his philanthropic and humanitarian nature and doing as much good as they can for those in need. Some are using their God given creative gifts, to show their love for the man himself.
One such fan is Amit Bhokase, a student of Commercial art (B.F.A) in Pune, India. His first recollection of AR Rahman was of the song Chotti si asha (Chinna china aasai), from Roja, when he was 6 years old. He is a somewhat visionary painter, as he had created an image of AR Rahman holding an Oscar in his hand, almost like a prophecy, as AR Rahman won 2 Oscars not long after.
Today, he has created this amazing sketch that we share with you, and has dedicated it to AR Rahman’s numerous fans, who celebrate this day by feeding to the poor and listening to his music in peer groups. Some visit his residence in Kodambakkam, Chennai, and they are usually treated with the same affection from AR Rahman, that they give to him.
Amit says: “Happy Birthday AR Rahman Sir. Celebrating life, because of you. This portrait is dedicated to all AR Rahman Fans. AR Rahman is a hero for me. His love towards people, and his down to earth nature, inspired me to make this pencil sketch in his image.”
The Thamarai team wish AR Rahman and his young son, Ameen, who shares this auspicious day as a birthday with his illustrious Dad, a very blessed Birthday and much success in 2010, starting with his 2 Grammy nominations. May the victorious call of Jai Ho continue to be yours.
