Cinema takes aboard another Haasan
The youngest daughter of Dr. Kamal Haasan and Sarika and sister of Shruti Haasan, Akshara Haasan has been assigned as assistant director. This will be for a Hindi film by director Rahul Dholakia in his forthcoming film “Society.”
Apparently the film stars Sarika and Dimple Kapadia. Since Akshara always had a keen interest in filmmaking, Sarika insisted Dholakia gave her the chance to take upon the role as she felt Dholakia would be the ideal mentor for her daughter.
On top of all this, Dimple has also asked Dholakia to take her nephew Karan as an assistant too.
With all these young directors in the training, can we expect better quality films in the future?
Prashanth is back
He gradually was becoming a bankable actor to most directors with movies such as Jeans, Star, Jodi. These were the romantic flicks until he decided to become macho man with action films such as Appu, Thamil and Majnu. He was even given the title as “Top Star.”
But all had gone down the drain, especially with his personal life and the cinema industry had no sight of where Prashanth went. But now the actor is back and is shooting for two films simultaneously under his father, actor Thyagarajan’s direction.
The first film is the remake of “Malaiyur Mambattiyan” which starred his father and Saritha. The film was a super hit back in the days and is still remembered to this date.
The new cast includes Meera Jasmine, Prakash Raj and Vadivelu.
The other is a historic film titled “Ponnan Shankar” where the actor will be playing dual roles. This is a story which is originally written by Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, M Karunanidhi.
Lets hope the actor is back in the game.
Karthik makes a comeback in Raavanan
The countdown to Raavanan has begun and there is a lot of hype, especially with the Tamil music launch of the film, which was special indeed. While Aishwarya Rai is in Cannes and she wasn’t present, the launch was still a massive success, with the rest of the Tamil cast and crew.
Director Mani Ratnam had the entire cast, including Vikram and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan on stage, with his Tamil cast of Prithviraj and Priya Mani. Music Maestro AR Rahman performed the ‘bonus’ song not available on CD (which is featured in the climax of the film) and Vairamuthu was at his eloquent best.
With 2 yesteryear heroes Karthik and Prabhu Ganesan, who made appearances, it proved the perfect point of anticipation for the film, which will release in June and is set to be this year’s big Summer blockbuster. It will be released simultaneously in Hindi as Raavan and Villain in Telugu.
Surya is so hot!
These are the words to Bollywood Actress and Miss India 1999 Gul Panag, In fact Surya’s Bollywood Director Ram Gopal Varma (RGV) is always praising about Surya and his looks, not to forget his eyes!
Gul Panag recently Tweeted: "Bumped into Ram Gopal Varma and Southern star Surya last night, while at dinner. The latter is hot as rumoured to be."
Rakta Charitra will be a tri-lingual, in Tamil, Hindi and Telugu and is directed by RGV (Rangeela) and stars Surya, Vivek Oberoi (Yuva, Kisna) & Priyamani (Paruthi Veeran, Raavan). It is a 2 part film, as RGV has over 5 hours to show in this epic.
Simbu Lingu photoshoot
Director Linguswamy (Deepavali, Bheema, Paiyya) has completed a photo-shoot with Young Super Star Silambarasan. It is heard that the actor was dressed as a NCC cadet leader wearing a NCC uniform. A large number of NCC cadets were brought in to take part in the shoot.
Music is done by Yuvan Shankar Raja and 3 songs have already been completed. With the script all finalised, the launch of the film is to take place end of this month.
With his father Kasthoori Raja and brother Selvaraghavan being one of the top directors in South India, it is now the turn of the next member of the family to wear the director’s cap. Actor Dhanush will become a director for a short film. He has decided to start at a small scale before taking things to the max.
Dhanush will be getting support from his good friend actress Divya Spandana (Polladhavan, Vaaranam Aaayiram). Since his wife Aishwarya has an interest in direction, she will be giving a helping hand to her hubby.
Lets wish Dhanush all the very best in his debut film as director.
AR Rahman and SJ Surya
Director and Actor SJ Surya and Music Wizard AR Rahman have given us some extraordinary films such as “New” and “Ah Aah.”
Well the duo back, but only this time, the director will not be acting in this flick. To top it all off, it is not even a Tamil film!
S.J.Surya is directing Telugu actor Pawan Kalyan in a Telugu film titled “Komaram Puli.” This action film will have the actor as a tough cop for the first time. With all songs completed, the launch is to take place at the end of May whilst the film is released in June.
It may be remembered that the director initially wanted to shoot this film in Tamil with actor Vijay but things did not go according to plan.
