Suriya gets injured

The talented actor Suriya injured his ankle whilst shooting an action scene for “7am Arivu” (The Seventh Sense) – an upcoming thriller, also starring Shruti Hassan. The actor has been told to take a few days rest before heading back to work, and we wish him well! Suriya plays a circus artist in the film, and a circus troupe from Thailand specially train him. The film is directed by A. R. Murugadoss, with music by Harris Jayaraj, and is slated for an April 2010 release.

Murugadoss collaborates with Hollywood bigshots

A. R. Murugadoss has been signed as the creative producer of Fox Star Studios – a joint company between Twentieth Century Fox and Star Network. The director will oversee and be involved in the development and production of Tamil films for the company. Murugadoss has done extremely well in the South, having been involved in films such as Ghajini, Dheena and the upcoming 7am Arivu. The film is currently untitled, but key roles have been given to Vimal (who starred in award-winning film Pasanga), and Jai (Goa, Subramaniyapuram, Chennai 600028), and will be directed by Saravanan, who is Murgadoss’ assistant. Good to see foreign companies taking good notice of Tamil cinema…let’s hope this venture will takeTamil film to the non-Tamil people also!

Manmadhan Ambu to be a Christmas special!

“Ulaganayagan” Kamal Hassan’s next film Manmadhan Ambu is set to be released for December 17th this year. Directed by K. S. Ravikumar (who brought us the likes of Thenali and Aadhavan), the film is a romantic comedy that also stars Madhavan and Trisha Krishnan amongst others. Kamal himself has written the film, and music has been scored by Devi Sri Prasad. Can’t wait to see this sure-fire comedy later this month!

Priyamani is waiting…

Actress Priyamani, who recently starred in Mani Ratnam’s blockbuster Raavanan (Raavan in Hindi) has said that though she is busy completing Telugu and Kannada projects, she is ready and willing to act in some Kollywood flicks too. Ram Gopal Varma’s trilingual release Raktha Charithram – in which she stars alongside Suriya and Vivek Oberoi – is out this Friday, and she is hoping that will do well at the box office. The actress says that she is hoping for a “meaty” role in Tamil, and nothing of the sort has come her way as of yet. Maybe we’ll see her on our screens again soon…
