Vana Yuddham – A biopic of forest brigand Veerappan

"Attahasa" is an upcoming Kannada film that is being released simultaneously in Tamil as "Vana Yuddham". The film is a biopic of the notorious notorious forest brigand, Veerappan, and is slated for a February 14th release. The film is by South Indian director A. M. R. Ramesh who directed hit Kannada film "Cyanide", which looked into the events in Bangalore after the assasination of Rajiv Gandhi. He also directed Cyanide’s Tamil version, entitled "Kuppi", which also shed some light about the LTTE.

The role of Veerappan will be played by Kishore ("Polladhavan", "Silambattam"), whilst Action King Arjun – who has most recently been seen in Mani Ratnam’s "Kadal" – will be playing Chief Special Task Force Officer Vijayakumar. The role of Veerappan’s wife, Muthulakshmi, will be played by Vijayalakshmi ("Chennai 600028" and "Anjathey"), and Lakshmi Rai ("Muni 2" and "Mankatha") will play the role of a journalist.

The film’s music has been scored by Ghana-born music director Sandeep Chowta, who has worked on a number of soundtracks for Hindi, Telugu and Kannada films.

The film has faced a lot of trouble, with Muthulakshi, the wife of Veerappan filing a case stating that the film might portray her husband in bad light. Another case ws filed by Nakkeeran Gopal, an editor of a Tamil magazine who had interviewed Veerappan on several occasions. Director AMR Ramesh has said that some scenes have been cut at the request of both Muthulakshmi and Nakkeeran Gopal, but now the film is ready to be released.
