Pongal Feast 2019: Tamil vegetarian & vegan cuisine in London

We are celebrating Thai Pongal, the annual Tamil harvest festival with a traditional pure vegetarian feast served on a banana leaf.

Pongal feast 2019 is an initiative by Thamarai to showcase Tamil vegetarian & vegan cuisine in London. For this, we have teamed up with Sambal Kitchen & Diner in South Harrow and the brand new Malaysian Tamil eatery Gopal’s Corner in Victoria.

Sambal Kitchen & Diner

Recently featured as one of “The Best Sri Lankan Restaurants in London” by Eater Magazine, Sambal Kitchen & Diner is a hidden gem in North West London. Popular with the Tamil community, the diner has been recently refurbished and is frequented regularly for their wide selection of curries, appam (also know as hoppers), dosa & lumprais.

Sambal is preparing a Pongal feast which includes 12 items served on a banana leaf. Available during lunch for £7.50

Days: 11th till 15th January 2019

Time: 12 noon till 3.30pm

Address: 247 Northolt Rd, Harrow HA2 8HR

Gopal’s Corner by Roti King

Sugen Gopal’s celebrated restaurant – Roti King in Euston – has been acknowledged as one of London’s ‘greatest cheap eats’ by the likes of Time Out, The Guardian and Eater. At Market Hall Victoria, Sugen pays homage to the restaurant opened by his parents in the 70’s in Malaysia – Gopal’s Corner. Their Malaysian Tamil menu includes their famous flaky, buttery rotis, dosas and their signature banana leaf rice & curry.

For Pongal Feast, Gopal’s Corner will be serving banana leaf rice with 4 vegetable curries, vadai, pongal & kesari for £9.95.

Days: 14th & 15th January 2019

Time: 12 noon till 9 pm
