57th National Film Awards

The 57th National Film Awards were announced last week, highlighting the best of 2009 in Indian Cinema. Films are chosen from the Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada and Bengali film industries.  The best feature film in Tamil went to ‘Pasanga’ directed by Pandiraj, who also won the Rajat Kamal Award for Best Dialogue Writer. For their spirited performance in Pasanga (means children in Tamil), the Best Child Artist was awarded to Kishore & Sri Ram.

Somewhat of a surprise to us was the movie ‘The Postman’ which was awarded the Best Non-Feature Film. You could almost miss it amongst the long list of winners. This Tamil language short film is a little gem and was taken in the picturesque landscapes of Pollachi, Tamil Nadu. With English subtitles we recommend everyone to spend a few minutes to watch it below. The film is about the life of a postman and the impact of modernisation and the introduction of the telephone on his life and the village. The film was directed by Manohar, cinematography by Abinandhan.R, edited by Logeshwaran & music by Dheena Dayal.
