The unbelievable has happened. Fusion music has reached new heights with the announcement last week that Rolling stones frontman Mick Jagger, Eurythmics member Dave Stewart, British Soul singer Joss Stone, Reggae legend Bob Marley’s son Damian Marley & our very own "Mozart of Madras" AR Rahman have formed a new band called Super Heavy!
Reports indicate that the musical collective have been working on the secret debut album in a Los Angeles studio for 18 months! To be titled "Fusion" and set to release in September 2011, the album brings together sounds and influences from many popular genres from Reggae to Indian to American Ballads.
Fusion is nothing new for award winning musician & composer AR Rahman. From the early days of his musical career, the Mozart of Madras has been introducing western influences into Tamil (Kollywood) & Hindi (Bollywood) film music. Through the recent success of songs like Jai ho featured the "Pussycat Dolls" and collaborations with artists including Dido & Michael Bolton, AR Rahman has been bringing the sound of India to Hollywood & the western audiences.
The Thamarai team look forward to all things Super Heavy!
