The story is said to be…loosely based on the tale of Tamil Buddhist monk Bodhidharma who began the physical training with Shaolin monks, thereby creating Shaolinquan, or Shaolin Kung Fu.
Judging by the trailer…it’s going to be…interesting. Shruti Hassan’s character is telling one of Suriya’s characters (he does 2 roles) that it is possible that his DNA may have parts which harbour qualities of Bodhidharma, who lived over 1000 years ago.
The film got into trouble because…some avid gamers claimed that the plot is very similar to that of top-seller "Assassin’s Creed", a game in which the lead character is a descendant of an Assassin, and is made to use a special device to reach into his ancestor’s memories in order to find the location of powerful ancient artefacts. There were also claims that the film is a remake of Christoper Nolan’s Inception.
Worth a watch? Not if you’re going to be looking for scientific accuracy in the claims about DNA manipulation and accessing ancestral memories. Apart from that though, Suriya is said to have taken his martial arts training very seriously, so the action looks like it’ll be good. Plus, it’s SURIYA (not that I’m biased or anything…).
